I've introduced Inevitable to two groups of players at Penn State and one group of players here in Austin, TX. Now I'm a common thread across all of these groups, but players in all three play groups tended to use the same starting strategy - regardless of what Group a player was playing:

1) Declare that you're heading toward The Mailbox and will stop there if possible.
2) Once you get to The Mailbox, buy a Revolving Door, Spam, and Rocket Roller Skates.
3) Eat the Spam. Gain 50 points of Power Max.
4) Use the Rocket Roller Skates (to jump over the Go To Prison space) and declare that you're stopping at County Hospital.
5) Once you get to County Hospital, spend $50 to buy your Power up to your Power Max.
6) Stop using the Rocket Roller Skates. Roll and hope to land on Snagged By Phonemes (Hooked On Phonics). Declare stops on The Network if needed to avoid landing on Convert to Communism.
7) Use the Revolving Door once you've landed on Snagged By Phonemes (Hooked On Phonics) or passed it.
8) Use the Rocket Roller Skates to hop over the Go To Prison space. Declare that you will stop The Mailbox if possible.
9) When you get to The Mailbox, purchase twoRevolving Doors and a Spam.
10) Use a Revolving Door.
11) Eat the Spam. Gain 50 points of Power Max.
12) Use the Rocket Roller Skates (to jump over the Go To Prison space) and declare that you're stopping at County Hospital.
13) Once you get to County Hospital, spend $50 to buy your Power up to your Power Max.
14) Use a Revolving Door.
...repeat steps (8) through (14) as many times as you can.

It's slow and a little boring, but it's fairly reliable and it keeps you near The Mailbox, which is useful in a lot of ways. Of course, if UPS is in the game, this strategy pretty much goes out the window. The same is true if one of the starting groups is much more powerful than the other groups in combat.

Remember: When in doubt, screw the player.

Lately...

Lately I've been doing a thing wherein I start off going *away* from the Mailbox on my first turn, taking the "long way" around the board as a way to build up cash.  It makes you a little vulnerable to Muggings from players coming the other way, but it gets you safely out the cluster of enemies.
