About
What is Inevitable?
Inevitable is a satirical board game, for 3-5 players, set in a slapstick dystopian future. It represents a successful hybrid of the chance-based pleasures of roll-and-move games, the wheeling and dealing of negotiation-based games, the drama and tension of collaborative beat-the-system games, and the narrative richness of character-driven role-playing games.
In Inevitable, you play the chosen representative of a group running a political campaign against HappyCOM-9, the all-seeing, all-knowing computer that serves as the Exalted Decider in the world of the game. HappyCOM-9 has shaped society in the image of a rather corrupted set of archival data, so today's political parties are long forgotten. Certain power blocs, such as the Church and the Mafia, still exist, and are available to players. But you could also be playing a representative of a corporation (ACME, UPS), or unorthodox new forces like Post-Apocalyptic Beasts or the Living Dead.
The game was initially designed in 1988-1990 and has been acquiring cult adherents in secret playtests ever since, but development of a commercial edition has begun. The Deluxe version of Inevitable contains a 76-square board, two illustrated manuals, 64 FATE Cards, 21 Groups, a Catalog of 20 different purchasable in-game items (enhancements, weapons, and more!), 23 1" Mylar-fronted buttons, and a pile of play money. We've also released it in two downloadable PDF formats: the full game as a pay-to-download PDF, and a free demo version with a reduced number of groups and FATE cards..
